Enel’s Brazilian renewables subsidiary Enel Green Power Brasil Participações (EGPB) has been awarded the right to sign 20-year power supply contracts.
The tender was organized by the country’s energy regulator ANEEL on behalf of the federal government.
Enel is expected to invest about $355m for the construction of the solar plant which goes by the name São Gonçalo and will be located in the São Gonçalo do Gurguéia municipality, in the State of Piauí.
Operations of the solar plant are expected to begin in early 2021 and it will generate more than 850GWh of clean energy annually.
The supply contracts will allow for the sale of specified volumes of energy generated from the facility to a pool of distribution companies in the Brazilian market.

Presently, Enel has an installed renewable capacity of about 2.6GW in Brazil, out of which 670MW is from wind power, 716MW is from solar PV and 1.27GW is from hydropower. Projects under construction include 172MW of wind and 103MW of solar capacity.
