The company has invested about $300m in the construction of the solar plant which is located in the town of Ribeira do Piauí, in the north eastern state of Piauí. It includes 930,000 solar panels, spread in an area of 690 hectares.
Annually, the plant can produce about 600GWh of clean energy, which can be supplied to 300,000 Brazilian homes, while offsetting around the 350,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Enel Green Power head Antonio Cammisecra said: “Nova Olinda solar park is an important milestone in the story of Enel Green Power in Brazil. Our expertise made possible the construction of this huge project in just 15 months, so we are particularly proud of this project.”
A total of 1700 jobs were created during the construction phase, stated Enel Green Power.
Enel’ Country Manager in Brazil, Carlo Zorzoli said: “Nova Olinda is a demonstration of how Enel is contributing to the diversification of the energy mix in Brazil by betting on the renewable sources that are so abundant in the country.”
In September, Enel Green Power Brasil Participações (EGPB) had started operations of two solar plants in the South American country, which cumulatively produce 546MW of clean energy. The two solar plants include the 254 MW Ituverava and the 292 MW Nova Olinda solar parks.
Presently in Brazil, Enel Green Power has a total installed capacity of about 2.27GW, out of which 670MW is wind power, 716MW is solar and 890MW is hydro power.
