Orbital was awarded this work directly from the Terminal Operator.
The demand for fast and accurate gas quality measurement is of significant importance for LNG operators due to the quantities involved. One standard cubic meter of LNG is equivalent to 600 cubic meters of Natural Gas, therefore vast quantities can flow in a very short time, hence the need to measure quickly and accurately.
The continual investment in existing and new LNG Import/Liquefaction infrastructure around the world has compelled Orbital for many years to innovate and produce new products & solutions designed to provide information enabling plant efficiencies to be realized, reducing CAPEX & OPEX, but also monitoring hazardous components in Natural Gas prior to liquefaction, including Mercury (Hg) and moisture (H2O).
Continuing our success with this large UK LNG terminal, where approximately 20% of the UK’s Gas is imported from Qatar, Orbital has added the new version GasPTi-LNG to the multiple GasPT sets already installed at this terminal. For its part, Qatargas have this month loaded a Q-Max LNG carrier, "Mozah," with its 10,000th export cargo – which is bound for the UK Import terminal. GasPT has played an important role in providing physical property gas data for this terminal and its operator since the first cargo received in 2009.
The GasPTi-LNG solution incorporates VE Technology to improve the overall response time and eliminate sample blending, resulting in gas quality updates of vaporized LNG (CV/BTU/Wobbe) every 5 seconds. The device provides unrivalled analytical performance for the plants process control ballasting operations prior to export into the UK National Grid Transmission system; thus, allowing tighter control of Nitrogen injection without triggering mandatory gas quality excursion limits.
Orbital had designed, supplied and commissioned the existing analytical solutions through a third-party, tier-one contractor; however, in these latest installations, Orbital is contracted directly by the Terminal Operator. These new GasPTi-LNG systems were delivered and successfully commissioned during May 2016.
As explained by CUI Global’s president & CEO, William Clough, "This deployment of our new GasPTi-LNG analyzers to a major UK LNG terminal operator once again proves the reliability and viability of our analyzer packages – including both the GasPT and VE technologies. It is particularly relevant in the case of imported LNG to provide quick, accurate, reliable data to the operator so as to ensure that only high-quality, properly ballasted gas enters the UK natural gas network."
"The design, manufacturing, delivery, and successful commissioning of these analyzers opens up yet another market for these exciting technologies, which will increase our market penetration and enhance our shareholder value moving forward," Clough concluded.
