The Western Downs Solar Project will be located about 23km south east of Chinchilla, near the existing Kogan Creek Power Station.
This is the tenth project that has secured approval from the Council and it is joint project between Yellow Solar and Tilt Renewables.
During the construction phase, the project is expected to generate about 300 full time jobs and two or four full time jobs during its operational phase.
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said: “This project will not only generate jobs and economic vitality, it most importantly shows we are leading the way in renewable energy as a pillar of our economy.
“The Western Downs has cemented its name as the Energy Capital of Australia, and this is demonstrated by the calibre of investors we are attracting to our region.”
He also stated that solar energy can add diversity to the regional economy, which can complement its pillars of agriculture, manufacturing and energy.
Yellow Solar director Matt Buchanan stated that the Western Downs is an ideal location for the development the solar project.
Recently, Western Downs council had approved a 240MW solar project which will be located 42km west of Dalby. The APA Group Beelbee Solar Farm project is expected to complement the Darling Downs Solar Farm, which is presently being constructed along Grahams Road in Kogan.
The project is expected to create about 450 jobs during the construction phase and six full time jobs, once it is operational.
