The STATCOMs will supply energy efficient and reliable power by maximizing the potential of power transfer, enhancing power quality and increasing grid stability.

The East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm, with its 102 wind turbines will generate 714MW of renewable wind energy, that will satisfy the requirements of over 500000 households.

The wind facility is situated 43km off the Suffolk Coast in the southern North Sea. The order was placed in the second quarter of 2017.

A division of ABB’s flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS), STATCOM will minimize losses, increase the capacity and flexibility of power transmission systems, and will supply to efficient and reliable grids.

ABB has installed over 800 FACTS across the globe.

The AbilityTM MACH system, a key component of STATCOM, will ensure reliability and efficiency by securing technology in the station.

Two ABB TrafoStar Autotransformers will be induced in STATCOM system to increase the energy efficiency.

ABB head of Grid Integration business Patrick Fragman said: “ABB’s advanced STATCOM and transformer technologies will not only help stabilize voltage fluctuations and enhance power capacity but also improve the quality and reliability of renewable wind energy supplies to millions of people.

“Renewables and power quality are both key focus areas of our next level strategy and such technology solutions reinforce our position as a partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter and greener grid.”
