The 9.9MW plant was delivered to U-Thong Bio Power, which is already operating a 10MW biomass power plant.

The plant, which is fuelled by rice husk and bagasse, will generate enough electricity for about 8,000 households in the region.

Areva developed the plant design apart from providing engineering services and the main equipment.

The company was also responsible for the supervision of the testing and commissioning phases.

Ensys supplied auxiliary equipment and provided construction services required for the project.

U-Thong Bio Power director Adisak Martsri said Areva and Ensys delivered the power plant, which meets all of the company’s expectations despite the complexity of such a project.

"The first few weeks of operations, have confirmed the success of the project," Martsri added.

Areva Renewables CEO Louis-François Durret said, "This facility has reached full capacity and responds perfectly to our customer’s requirements."

Prior to the new plant, Areva has already delivered two similar biomass facilities in Thailand, and is currently working on two additional units both in Thailand and the Philippines.

The company has contributed to the installation of 95 biomass power plants globally, totaling 2.5GW of installed capacity.
