Of the total number of turbines, 21 are the AW 116/3000 model having rotor diameter of 116m, and nine are the AW 125/3000 version having rotor diameter of 125m.

As part of the contract, Acciona will also install the turbines on 100m and 120m high concrete towers of Itarema wind power complex, which will be manufactured near the wind farms by using the assembly method created by Acciona.

Additionally, Acciona has signed a letter of intent with Rio Energy for the purchase of 39 additional turbines (117MW) for use in other wind farms in the Itarema project. The agreement, however, is yet to be formalized and will be done in next few months.

Acciona Windpower Brazil director Christiano Forman said the contract signed with Rio Energy is another example of the excellent reception that the Brazilian wind power market has given their biggest wind turbine within the AW3000 series.

"It is an efficient and highly competitive machine that is particularly adaptable to the wind power potential in this country," Forman added.

All the 30 turbines will be supplied in 2015.
