The agreement has been signed with Economic Zones World (EZW), which develops and operates special economic zones under the Dubai Property Group.

After completion, the 60,000m² facility will be used to recover recyclables from solid waste collected by Imdaad.

The facility will have an initial operating capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day, with an option to double it when needed in the future.

The facility, which will also be open to other waste collection firms, will be used to handle waste collection and recycling from the Expo 2020 site in Dubai World Central.

Imdaad CEO Jamal Abdullah Lootah said the facility will allow to achieve maximum waste diversion, which will in turn reduce the waste being sent to Dubai Municipality Landfill.

"The material recovery facility at TechnoPark will be our first step towards the vision of completing waste management cycle to enhance our capabilities in terms of supporting the region’s drive towards a sustainable environment," Lootah added.

The facility will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions, preserve fuel and recycle materials.

The plant will feature a research and development department, which will carry out research to identify the latest technologies for better management and treatment of waste.
