The wind farm will be located in Kingfisher and Logan Counties, Oklahoma and will be owned by EGPNA’s subsidiary Red Dirt Wind Project.
Enel will be investing about $420m in the wind project, as part of the company’s strategic investment plan.
When completed, the wind farm is expected to generate about 1,200GWh of renewable energy annually. The produced energy will be sufficient to power more than 97,000 homes the US, while offsetting about 860,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
The wind farm is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. The energy and renewable energy credits from the Red Dirt will be sold under two long-term agreements, one with T-Mobile US for 160MW and the other with the Grand River Dam Authority for 140MW from the wind facility.
EGPNA claims that since entering the state of Oklahoma in 2012, the company has seen a tenfold increase in capacity to 1.5GW in the state.
EGPNA’s other projects in the state include the 150 MW Rocky Ridge in Kiowa and Washita Counties, 300 MW Chisholm View I and II in Grant and Garfield Counties, and 150 MW Origin in Murray, Carter, and Garvin Counties, among others.
Recently, the company started the construction of a new solar plant in the Central American country Panama. It is 42MW project and will increase Enel’s capacity in the country by 354MW.
