The facility, which is equipped by FS Series 3 Black PV modules, is expected to generate around 1,400MWh of clean energy per year.

Power generated from the project will be supplied to Kyushu Electric Power.

First Solar chief commercial officer Joe Kishkill said that Japan has ambitious solar power development goals to help mitigate the dependency on nuclear energy.

"The completion of the Kitakyushu-shi project supports that commitment along with providing electricity users with a fuel alternative that is safe, can be rapidly deployed, and has the smallest carbon footprint," Kishkill added.

The project, in which First Solar holds 100% equity, has been built by Obayashi and Yaskawa Electric, while Nippon Sheet Glass supplied the advanced technology glass used in the PV modules.
