Located along the ridge starting about four miles south of Pollock and extending southward and eastward in Campbell County, the 98MW project is likely to be operational by the end of 2015.

Dakota Plains Energy president and principal Rob Johnson said "the project has been selected to provide 98MW of clean, affordable energy to nearly 30,000 homes in the Upper Midwest."

"We are pleased for the opportunity to showcase South Dakota’s superior wind energy assets along with providing the local economy with a positive impact for years to come," added Johnson.

In November 2013, the company has also signed two power purchase agreements for 278MW of wind power from projects in North Dakota to be commissioned by the end of 2015.

Basin Electric’s renewable portion of the total energy generation mix will be more than 1,100MW once the new projects are commissioned.

Basin Electric CEO and general manager Andrew Serri said "The company is increasing its generating portfolio with another wind project and is working with a developer in the neighboring state, where it already has a generation presence."

"The cornerstone of a strong generation portfolio is diversity. This project will add to our robust mix of coal, gas, wind, waste heat, nuclear and oil," added Serri.
