The assets are owned by Blue Transmission Walney 1, which awarded the contract following a competitive bidding process.

The wind farm is located 15km from the coast of Walney Island and 18km from Barrow in Furness, in the Irish Sea, northwest of England.

RES will carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, as well as deliver asset and site management, logistics, subsea surveys and control centre services.

The wind farm 51 Siemens 3.6MW wind turbines, with a rotor diameter of 107m and a hub height of 83.5m.

After completion, the wind farm will generate enough clean power to offset about 262,000 tonnes of carbon and more than 6000 tonnes of sulphur dioxide.

It will deliver enrugh energy for about 130,000 homes in England. The wind farm has a life span of about 20 years.

RES AO&M general manager Filippo Di Salle said: “Winning our first long term maintenance contract on an operating offshore wind farm is a great achievement for RES.

“We’ve been able to use our 10 years expertise in the operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms to great effect in successfully winning this project.”

BTW1L spokesman said: “Following a competitive bidding process RES was selected due to their open and collaborative approach, as well as its deep understanding of engineering, technical and operational matters in the offshore wind industry.”
