The project will be jointly developed by Tata Power, Clean Energy Invest, Norway (Clean Energy) and IFC InfraVentures (IFC). Initially, the output of the project will be sold to Turkey.

Tata Power managing director Anil Sardana said that the company is delighted with the commencement of the first phase of the hydro project in Georgia.

"I would like to thank the government of Georgia for the support and encouragement on exploring the huge hydropower potential of the country," Sardana added.

"We are committed to work with Georgian government to make this as a nodal development in this amazing country of warm and committed people."

In addition, Tata Power is also developing the 114MW Dagachhu hydro project along with Druk Green Power Company in Bhutan.
