The new hydropower plant, to be constructed in the city of Dubrovnik, will have a generation capacity of 68MW.
The power generation facility will help Croatia to improve its energy security, diversify its energy supplies and to increase the supply of potable water to the city of Dubrovnik.
Structured under the EBRD’s A/B loan scheme, the financing facility includes an EUR80m portion for the Bank’s account, with the remaining EUR43.2m to be syndicated to commercial banks.
The EBRD will work closely with Hrvatska Elektroprivreda to ensure the project is implemented in line with national legislation as well as the relevant EU directives.
EBRD Power and Energy Utilities director Nandita Parshad said while recognizing the technical and environmental challenges the project entails, the bank also believe the project is important to further develop Croatia’s renewable energy generation capacity.
