Honeywell general manager home comfort and energy systems Tony Uttley said, "With the Comfort Control API, our thermostats will communicate with other applications and devices, which gives consumers a greater experience of convenience, control, an energy management within their home."
The API program is said to alert homeowners when temperatures are adjusted to cut electric consumption, help drive energy efficiency, demand response and customer engagement, and provide home owners with better control of their environment through building light, shading, heating and cooling systems.
Current development partners of the program include Akuacom, Opower, Control4 and Lutron, said the company.
Honeywell Smart Grid Solutions vice president and general manager Jeremy Eaton said using innovative technology to help utilities offer comfort, convenience and control to their customers is the key.
"The API creates a tighter bond between our utility and consumer technology, which ultimately means greater savings."
