This project is expected to receive around €2.5m in funding from Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The smart battery management project will improve battery performance in hybrid and electric vehicles.

According to the partners, the project will develop smart data transmission techniques specifically for lithium-ion batteries, and will also focus on the research of powerline communications systems capable of efficiently controlling and monitoring each of the up to 100 cells found in a battery pack.

Commenting on the project, Robert Bosch official Jens Strobel, who coordinates the project, said that the intention is to constantly monitor and to control each battery cell individually.
