UniCredit Tiriac Bank will on-lend the funds to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are investing in industrial energy efficiency and small-scale renewable energy projects.

EBRD has provided the loan under its Romania SME Sustainable Energy Financing Facility.

Commenting on the transaction, EBRD Financial Institutions, EU Banks director Sylvia Gansser-Potts said Romania has a potential to achieve energy savings and the EBRD long-term loan accelerates opportunities in obtaining financing for energy efficiency projects.

UniCredit Tiriac Bank CEO Rasvan Radu said, "UniCredit Tiriac Bank’s commitment and track record in financing SMEs, combined with the EBRD’s proven experience in implementing energy efficiency programmes, provides a strong basis for success in this new partnership."

EBRD has provided around €645m for sustainable energy investments in Romania, with a total project value approaching €3.9bn, since the launch of its Sustainable Energy Initiative in 2006.
