The wind farm will have the capacity to produce 180MW and it has the potential for immense socioeconomic benefits in the region.
The contract has been awarded by Beothuk Energy through its engineering firm, Maderra Engineering includes geological and bathymetric compilation, constraints analysis, wind resource and energy assessment and cost of modelling using Levelized Cost of Energy.
Beothuk Energy will also be analysing over six decades of wind data and a collection of seismic, hydrographic and bathymetric data as well.
DNV GL will be responsible for providing constraints analysis, wind resource and energy assessment, LCOE modelling and initial wind farm layout.
DNV GL has been chosen for this work because of the years of experience it has in offshore wind sector which includes feasibility, development, engineering, construction and operations services.
On the other hand, Fugro Geosurveys has been awarded the contract to provide Bathymetric/geologic compilation, hydrographic data reprocessing, assessment of stability and seismicity, GIS analyses of seabed morphology, and routing options.
Fugro Geosurveys specialises in seafloor mapping, geotechnical, geological/seismic surveys, integrated navigation/positioning and industrial surveys on land, air and in oceans.
Maderra Engineering will be offering Owner’s Engineering services such as planning, technical documentation review and integration and interface management.
Beothuk Energy chairman and CEO Kirby Mercer said: "This work program will provide key information for moving forward with the project’s design, providing a foundation for engineering, planning, and development of Canada’s first offshore wind farm."
Apart from this project, Beothuk Energy is working on several other projects in Atlantic Canada. It is working to provide clean and renewable energy to Canada with several projects at regions such as Newfoundland, Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick and Mercer.
