The company will supply, install and commission the SWT-7.0-154 towers, each with a 154m rotor diameter.

The customer, Beatrice Offshore Windfarm, is a partnership formed between SSE (40%), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (35%) and SDIC Power (25%).

The wind farm will be situated about 14 kilometers from the Scottish coast. The 7MW wind turbines will be erected on jacket foundations in ocean depths of 35m to 56m.

Upon completion, the project can produce enough clean electricity to power more than 400,000 homes in the UK.

Installation of the wind turbines is scheduled to begin during the summer of 2018 and with planned completion by 2019.

Siemens will be responsible for turbine service and maintenance under a 15-year contract, which also covers remote monitoring and diagnostics.

For the grid-access solution, the German firm will provide two offshore transformer modules that are one-third smaller in size and weight compared to a conventional alternating-current platform.

The company’s partner in providing the offshore grid connection, Nexans, will design, supply and install the export cable, both offshore and onshore.

Siemens Wind Power and Renewables division offshore market unit CEO Michael Hannibal said: "This is a significant order for our new 7-megawatt-class wind turbine.
