The installation of the solar PV systems will reduce SCIA’s operational cost by $18.35m over the term of the 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) and also cut an estimated 15,428,397lbs of carbon emissions annually.

Under the terms of the PPA, Vanguard will build, own, operate and maintain the solar systems for 15 years, allowing the participating local governments to buy the renewable electricity at predictable, discounted rates.

In addition, the projects will track the performance of the solar PVs using real-time, web-based monitoring system provided by Branchburg, New Jersey- based Noveda Technologies.

Vanguard CEO Jim LaFleur said that the company is excited and pleased to support Somerset County’s outstanding leadership and commitment to its citizens and the environment.

“This private-public partnership in renewable energy is a win-win because it will save money for taxpayers, support the local economy, and benefit the environment,” LaFleur said.
