BYD has partnered with Sime Darby Motors, Hong Kong Taxi & Public Light Bus Association, The Link Management, CLP Power Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Electric Company to place the first batch of 45, BYD e6 electric cross-over sedan taxis into operation.

Commenting on the initiative, BYD chairman and president Wang Chuan-fu said that the company utilizes its best-of-breed EV technologies for e6 Taxis and e6 Premier sedans being launched in the country.

The BYD e6 is a spacious, 5-passenger, crossover vehicle powered by the BYD Iron-Phosphate batteries, which has a long battery life with the highest safety level in the industry. It takes only two hours to fully charge the e6 using the company’s AC charging equipment.

Hong Kong Taxi & Public Light Bus Association president and chairman Wong Chung Keung said, "The support of the taxi industry is essential to the mass-adoption of Evs."

Meanwhile, BYD is establishing 47 chargers in 9 charging locations near car parks across Hong Kong as the first phase of deployment.
