The SolarStrong project, valued at $1bn, is expected to generate about 371MW of new solar capacity.

The project includes the deployment of residential rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems on existing privatized military family residences and other privatized buildings, such as community centers, administrative offices, maintenance buildings and storage warehouses.

SolarCity has agreed to install, own and operate about 160,000 rooftop solar installations on as many as 124 US military bases in nearly 33 states.

As part of the five-year power project, construction on a 4MW PV installation at Hickam Air Force base is currently underway.

The project will provide low-cost, renewable electricity to privatized military housing and is expected to avoid over 250,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.

All the electricity generated by the solar power projects is expected to be sold through long-term electricity sales agreements.

USRG Renewable Finance, in collaboration with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, is acting as lead lender for the project.
