BYD has purchased the former Rexhall Industries recreational vehicle manufacturing facility in Lancaster to house its electric bus manufacturing operations.
Lancaster mayor R. Rex Parris said that the proposed manufacturing facility is the first for BYD Motors in the US.
In April 2013, BYD has secured a $12.1m contract with Long Beach Transit Authority to produce 10 zero-emissions, all-electric buses.
BYD noted that the company’s advanced electric buses provide a range of over 155 miles on a single charge, among the highest in the electric bus industry.
In addition, the company is planning to establish a Li-ion battery manufacturing facility in Lancaster.
