Verizon has signed a multi-year deal with California solar-panel manufacturer SunPower (SPWR), which will supply and install solar power systems to 19 facilities in California, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Arizona and North Carolina.

Installation of the solar panel systems is likely to complete in the later part of this year. These systems are expected to generate approximately 8 million kWh of power annually.

As part of the solar and fuel cell energy project, Verizon has also inked a deal with fuel cell manufacturer ClearEdge Power.

ClearEdge will install PureCell Model 400 hydrogen fuel cells at facilities in California, New Jersey and New York.

This project is a part of Verizon’s goal to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% by 2020. The latest move will put the communications firm in the list of big firms that follow clean energy practices such as Yahoo and Google.
