The components will be assembled at Gran Canaria in Canary Islands, reported Cleantechnica.com.

Gamesa has shipped three wind turbine blades, nacelle and tower.

Manufactured at Aoiz, each of the blades weigh 15t, and are the largest turbine blades manufactured in Spain. Nacelle, which weighs 72t and is 4m tall and 12.5m long, has been manufactured at Tauste, Zaragoza. The tower, which has been made by Windar, a JV set up by Gamesa and Daniel Alonso, is 90m high.

Once the shipment reaches at Arinaga Quay, Gamesa will commence the assembly of the prototype G128-5.0MW offshore turbine.

The turbine is expected to commence operations in the Q3 of fiscal 2013. It is also expected to receive necessary approvals in the next few months. Following this, initial series of the turbine will be installed in 2014.

In the future, Gamesa plans to develop turbines with higher capacity of between 7MW and 8MW.

Spain has nearly 1,000 wind farms installed with a total generating capacity of nearly 23,000MW in fiscal 2012.
