The 5MW Prairie Fire Solar Plant for Tucson Electric Power (TEP) is located near East Valencia and East Old Vail roads and employs 17,000 modules.

Designed and constructed by Solon, the fixed-tilt system is spread over an area of 28 acres and will be owned and operated by TEP.

The array is expected to produce nearly 9,000MWh of electricity, enough to power about 850 homes per annum.

Solon Power Plants vice president and general manager Jared Schoch said that the new power plant showcases the stellar project execution of the company’s power plants team.

TEP president David Hutchens added, "The Prairie Fire system is the third utility-scale solar array developed for us in Tucson by Solon.

"We proudly work with companies like SOLON, as well as public and educational partners, to help make Southern Arizona a leader in the development of solar projects that are cost-effective and environmentally sensitive."
