Located in the Mediterranean Sea in the Shorouk concession, the Zohr field is estimated to hold up to 30 trillion cubic feet of gas.
During the test, the Zohr 2X well delivered up to 44 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd) from 120m of the reservoir.
Following analyses of comprehensive set of data collected, the firm proved that the well has a deliverability of up to 250 MMScfd in production configuration.
Three additional wells are planned to be drilled on the field by the company in this year.
Eni, through its subsidiary IEOC Production, operates the Shorouk Block with 100% stake.
Operations are being carried out by Petrobel, a joint venture between IEOC and the State partner Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).
Meanwhile, Eni said that the construction of onshore gas treatment plant is currently underway and the bids for the offshore activities are nearing completion.
Production from the Zohr field is planned to commence by the end of 2017 and is expected to reach about 75 million standard cubic meters of gas per day.
The company recently secured approval from the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for the development of Zohr gas field, which is spread across an area of about 100km2.
Eni estimates that the field could be one of the largest natural-gas discoveries in the world and has potential to meet the natural gas demand in Egypt for decades upon full development.
