The city government is regular with the provisions and mandate of Republic Act No. 9003, also known as the Solid Waste Disposal Management Act of 2000.

Paranaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr. has led the introduction of Population-Health-Environment (PHE) Project with barangay, education and non-government organization (NGO) officials and representatives at the covered court of Barangay Moonwalk.

Bernabe highlighted the urgency of finding ways to help minimize the effects of global warming made worse by the reality of climate change. He advised the residents of the Paranaque city to lend a hand and give their full support to the new effort of the city government to enhance the well-being of city residents, and also improve the quality of the environment for their benefit.

“One of the heaviest contributors to global warming is the pollution produced by garbage or solid waste that are not properly collected and disposed of,” added Bernabe.

Bernabe also said that improperly handled garbage, particularly those that are thrown in the rivers, creeks, canals and on sidewalks are harmful to the health of residents in the community and also contribute to the worsening of the quality of the environment.

Bernabe further added that the condition is not irreversible if all the residents will put their effort by starting to separate, compost and recycle their respective household garbage.

Th city Health Officer Olga Virtusio, who headed the team that conceptualized the project, has reportd that three city barangays, Moonwalk, Sun Valley and Don Bosco, were selected as pilot project sites.
