The acquisition follows a deal signed in December 2014 with Union Power Partners, an independent power producer wholly-owned by Entegra.
Entergy said that the acquisition marks a step ahead in providing additional efficient, clean energy resources for new and existing customers and upgrading its power generation fleet.
The acquisition is also expected to help meet increasing resource demands in the region.
Commissioned in 2003, the Union natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant comprises four combined-cycle gas-fired generating units, each with a power generation capacity of 495MW.
In particular, Entergy Arkansas and Entergy New Orleans each acquired one unit in the power project while Entergy Louisiana acquired two units.
The Union power station is located adjacent to an Entergy substation that directly interconnects the plant to the Entergy 500kV transmission system.
The power plant features eight GE 7-FA combustion turbines with inlet air fogging, eight Alstom heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) with supplemental duct-firing and four GE single case, single flow axial exhaust condensing steam turbines.
Natural gas is delivered through a 42-mile, 30-inch interstate pipeline to the plant. The Entegra-owned pipeline connects to both the Regency and the Texas Gas Transmission pipelines, which provides the project with broad access to major gas supply sources.
