The program has been designed to provide the participating utility customers who turn in operating but energy inefficient refrigerators and freezers will be eligible for a $35 incentive check for each qualifying appliance. A customer can dispose off a maximum of two units per year.

ARCA will be responsible for the in-home collection of qualifying refrigerators and freezers and subsequent recycling of these units. Through this program, NIPSCO and ARCA expect to divert more than 95% of the recyclable materials in the old units from entering the landfill.

Edward Cameron, president and CEO of ARCA, said: “We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to provide environmentally sound, turnkey appliance recycling services for NIPSCO in Northern Indiana.

“We are excited to support NIPSCO’s efforts to help customers protect the environment and reduce their energy consumption while receiving a $35 incentive for each appliance they recycle.”
