The Egyptian Electricity and Energy Minister Hassan Younes told the state owned news agency MENA that the process will be in two phases, reported Reuters.

First phase of the tender will be launched in January 2013 for 500MW with the second one expected in July.

The country is expecting renewable investments worth $100bn over the next 15-years with a target of generating 20% of the required energy from renewable sources.

Minister Younes has set a 58,000MW renewable energy target for the country by 2027 which roughly triples the current capacity.
