The patent, which is for Light Emitting Device and Associated Method of Manufacture, protects the basic design of Vu1’s bulb through a number of enhancements that could be envisioned for the device.

Cold cathode technology has come to the foreground with the discovery of carbon nanotubes, nature’s ideal cathode technology.

The company intends converting to this technology will provide higher efficiency, turn on times measured in millionth’s of a second and simplified electronics resulting in lower cost.

Vu1 president and CEO Scott Blackstone said this particular patent protects the company’s migration path toward higher efficiency, lower cost designs using new technology and it believes further enhancements using this application will allow Vu1’s ESL bulbs to maintain maximum efficiency, even while dimming.

Vu1 is a developer and manufacturer of mercury-free, energy-efficient, general illumination lighting technology.
