The solar park, which is valued at EUR50m ($71.62m), covers nearly 40 hectares and includes a total of 120,000 solar modules.

By the end of this year, the solar park will produce 28MWp and provide sufficient green energy for about 32,000 inhabitants.

The grounds for the solar park, formerly a NATO airport, are leased for a period of twenty years by the Federal Office for Real Estate, the company said.

Permission for the construction was granted by the district council as the community supported the idea of using the area for a solar project from the start.
