Agility will install the tanks on Kenworth T800 Class 8 trucks for operation by dairy farm operators.

Dairy farm operators will use waste from their cows that generates sustainable methane fuel in an anaerobic digester to create fuel for their trucks.

The switch to compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles reduces greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 23% compared to conventional 2010 diesel-powered models, Quantum said.

Also, since CNG engines do not require particulate traps and SCR systems to meet emissions, the cost and maintenance of these systems is eliminated.

Dairy farm operators will have a substantial operating cost reduction beyond the 30% achieved by typical fleets, as the fuel is being created by the cows themselves.

Quantum president and CEO Alan Niedzwiecki said the company’s polymer-lined ultra-light-weight carbon fiber tanks provide the necessary corrosion-resistance and robustness for this application.
