Through this program, CenterPoint Energy has deployed 45,000 smart meters in its service territory. eMeter’s Energy IP software provides a platform that enables competitive retail electric providers (REPs) in CenterPoint Energy’s electric service territory to offer new pricing models and services such as time-of-use pricing. The system also facilitates the remote reading, connection and disconnection of electric meters.

“CenterPoint Energy is committed to providing REPs with the tools they need to offer an array of advanced metering services to their customers,” said Kenny Mercado, division senior vice president, advanced metering system deployment. “eMeter’s software provides metering and operational information that we need for a successful AMS deployment, and we are beginning to see improvements in meter-related automation and a reduction in truck rolls.”

eMeter’s new EnergyIP advanced data management architecture will enable CenterPoint Energy to provide REPs with remote meter readings on demand as well as access to electric usage data in 15-minute intervals through a web site portal.

“EnergyIP is the system capable of providing Retail Electric Providers with the event driven, actionable information they need to innovate on service and optimize operations,” explained eMeter Chief Executive Officer Cree Edwards. “eMeter’s advanced architecture has the unique flexibility to accommodate multiple retailers, meter suppliers and networks inherent to deregulated markets like Texas. This functionality is essential to enabling CenterPoint Energy’s current AMS program and any future Smart Grid initiatives.”

eMeter is a US-based provider of MDM product and additional business process tools.
