Secretary of the Indian Ministry of New & Renewable Energy Gireesh Pradhan welcomed foreign investments into the sector on a build-own-operate basis with 100% foreign direct investment.

"We aim to achieve about 55,000 MW of renewable power by 2017.

"Our aim for 2022 includes 20,000 MW of grid connected, 2,000 MW of off-grid solar power and connecting over 20 million rural households with solar home lighting," added Pradhan.

The country is making renewed efforts to further renewable power generation to meet the rising demand across the country and needs greater investments to increase the share of renewable sources in its energy portfolio.
