The company, however, did not rule out reentering the sector in the future, reported Optics.org.

JDSU manufactures CPV cells that capture concentrated sunlight at 500 to 1,000 times its original power. It aimed to achieve conversion efficiencies of over 40% in future, before deciding to cease production.
The company has been providing CPV technology to land installations, solar power products to the satellite industry and PV technology for the digital monitoring of smart grid power plants.

In July 2011, JDSU purchased the critical product design, intellectual property and other assets of UK-based CPV provider QuantaSol. It planned to utilize QuantaSol multiple quantum well (MQW) technology to convert more sun light into electrical power.
