First Solar will supply the advanced thin-film PV modules to be employed at the farm besides providing engineering, procurement and construction services.
The project is part of the proposed Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, expected to be constructed with an investment of AED12bn ($3.27bn) producing 1,000MW of clean energy.
Commenting on the project DEWA managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer remarked that the installation of the plant is an important step towards making solar energy a vital part of the Emirates energy portfolio.
"The strategy is based on Dubai’s growing energy requirements and aims to maintain security of supply in the Emirate of Dubai," said Tayer.
The solar plant will be managed and operated by DEWA and is expected to generate 22MWh of energy besides reducing carbon emissions by 14,000mt.
