The biogas plant is being built to save on wood fuel used in drying fish in the area.

UNIDO consultant, Rajan Ajaikumar told newsmen the area Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has donated 1.5 million Kenyan shillings to ensure the plant is completed as soon as possible.

He said they will also build a community kitchen for frying fish to conserve the environment instead of using firewood.

Ajaikumar noted that the German technology, known as Community Powerhouse Centre, is the best way to conserve the environment, especially in Kenya, where the for est cover is dwindling by the day.

He said in future, arrangements will be made to compress biogas and pack in cylinders for sale.
