The wind farm is located in the Hermanville and Clear Springs area of the Island and is expected to be operational by the end of 2013.

The scope of the agreement also covers the operation and maintenance of the turbines for a period of 15-years.

Commenting on the contract, ACCIONA Windpower North America CEO Joe Baker said, "We’re very excited to partner with Prince Edward Island Energy Corporation on the first Canadian installation of our AW3000 turbine."

The turbines have 116m diameter rotors that optimize their performance over a range of wind speeds, said the company.
