However, the foreign experts have pointed to the need for Vietnam to overhaul its legal system and build a competent environmental governance for its low-carbon economy (called the green economy).

The experts have also urged the nation to formulate a national action plan for the sustainable production and consumption, focus on treating industrial waste, and build waste treatment facilities in urban and rural areas. This is to ensure a balanced ecosystem.

In particular, the experts have called on the country to do more to increase awareness among management agencies, implementation bodies and individuals of the importance of environmental protection.

The experts have suggested that a green economy model be developed on Phu Quoc island and that the development of green urban areas is needed for the creation of a low-carbon economy.

UNEP also pledged to continue supporting the Vietnam for implementing the National Strategy of ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ (3R).
