Severnside will develop systems to handle the different waste streams generated from a range of facilities, including general offices, specialist laboratories and estates, that Defra operates.

The company will handle variety of materials including paper, electronics, food and other waste materials via its 15 regional recycling facilities and subsequently re-processors.

Severnside will begin by analyzing the waste collected from Defra’s sites to understand the quantities and types of waste that are generated and will accordingly develop the systems to manage the waste.

Severnside will also provide carbon offsetting in the process of managing the waste from the Defra sites.

Carwyn Gurmin, national sales manager of Severnside, said: “Working with Interserve and Defra is great for us and demonstrates our determination to find sustainable alternatives to waste management.

“We’re looking forward to working with Interserve & Defra as the diverse portfolio means that we’re expanding the expertise within our own business and can use some different technologies that have not be used within our traditional client base.”
