Construction of the proposed wind farm will create 358 jobs. Upon completion, the complex will employ eight people.

The wind farm will operate for 20 years, after which the company will assess the complex to determine whether to renovate it or close it.

The wind turbines will be 80 meters tall and can produce between 1.5 and 2.3 megawatts (MW) of power, totaling about 250 MW.

According to the CODELCO Norte proposal, the wind farm will generate 766,500 megawatt hours on average every year.

Codelco Norte said that the wind farm “will provide the energy required for (the company’s) production processes in northern Chile, diversifying the energy grid of the Greater North and incorporating clean energy that will not be limited by the restrictions of a fuel supply.”

Codelco Norte also said that the renewable wind energy project allows selling carbon credits to other countries.
