Prior to completion, Pattern has signed a 27-year power purchase agreement with Manitoba Hydro to sell energy produced by the wind energy facility.

The wind facility, which is now fully operational, is expected to produce enough clean power annually to serve the needs of 50,000 homes in the Manitoba area.

Over the life of the project, Pattern will pay an estimated $38m to landholders and an additional $44m in local municipal taxes, with two-thirds of the tax revenue dedicated to education and one-third committed to the host communities, the company said.

Construction on the facility, which comprises of 60 wind turbines, began in May 2010.

The company expects that the St Joseph wind farm will contribute to a regional reduction of approximately 350,000 tons of greenhouse gases.
