This advanced metering infrastructure deployment includes a two-way network and features an advanced digital meter with the load limiting and remote service capability, along with connectivity to home area network devices. This will allow AEP Texas to send energy consumption information and real-time pricing signals to consumers as well as provide automated load management options.

As the demand for electricity continues to outpace development of energy resources, using smart grid technologies to improve energy management is a critical piece to ensuring our energy future. AEP Texas is adopting technology that will improve efficiency and help control rising costs, while making it easier to utilize alternative sources of energy, said Richard Mora, chief executive officer of Landis+Gyr North America. Landis+Gyr is proud to partner with AEP. Gridstream provides a flexible, scalable and secure solution designed to meet their demanding requirements for interconnectivity and information management.

Landis+Gyr is helping design the smart grid of the future by connecting utilities to important information and control points throughout the distribution network. Through Gridstream, utilities are able to offer consumers a broad array of new pricing, demand response and energy automation options that enhance the efficiency and reliability of the electric grid. Energy consumers benefit from more information, expanded choices, and simplified management of their energy while protecting the environment.

Including the contract with AEP Texas, Landis+Gyr has now signed agreements to deploy around 4 million smart meters with Texas utilities.

In the recent months, Landis+Gyr has launched a number of large-scale contracts with utilities across the globe. In the US, Landis+Gyr has recently announced deals with Texas utility Oncor, Washington D.C.-based Pepco Holdings and California utility Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
