Under the contractor, MHPS will be responsible for the supply of the main components for the Unit 10 (L10) of the power plant.
The firm will deliver M701F4 gas turbine, a steam turbine, heat recovery steam generator and air quality control system as part of the contract.
The GTCC power generation facility are planned to be built on Lamma Island which is situated to the southwest of Hong Kong Island and adjacent to existing Unit 9.
The new Unit 10, which will replace the aging units at the Lamma Power Station, is expected to help meet the stringent emission requirements set by the Hong Kong Government.
Planned to be commissioned in January 2020, the new Unit 10 will meet power demand in the Hong Kong Island. The Hong Kong Government aims to increase natural gas generation capacity to 50% by 2020.
HK Electric managing director Wan Chi-tin said: "The signing of this agreement represents a milestone for HK Electric as it marks the beginning of the construction of L10.
"When L10 is commissioned in 2020, it will enable HK Electric to further reduce our carbon footprint and other emissions while maintaining power supply reliability."
As per the HK Electric’s 2014- 2018 five-year development plan, which was approved by the Hong Kong Government, a total of three coal-fired units and one gas-fired unit will be decommissioned between 2017 to 2020.
