The start up follows the commissioning of the first unit of 3x660MW Prayagraj super thermal power project at Bara in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh in December 2015, four months ahead of the schedule.

Bhel is responsible for the main plant of the 3x660MW Lalitpur coal fired power plant located in Lalitpur in Bundelkhand district of Uttar Pradesh, as part of a contract signed earlier.

The Rs54.5bn ($1.22bn) order was placed by the plant developer Lalitpur Power Generation Company (LPGCL), a Bajaj Group company.

The first unit of the Lalitpur power plant was commissioned in 2015.

Separately, Bhel is under a contract to build, install and commission 500MW units at Anpara ‘D’ thermal power station for Uttar Pradesh Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (UPRVUNL) in Uttar Pradesh.

Till date, the firm has secured orders for 43 sets of supercritical boilers and 38 sets of supercritical turbine generators by various customers in the country.

Bhel has already commissioned 5,706 MW of power plants in the utility sector during the current financial year (2015-16) and is on track to achieve the capacity addition target set by the government for the fiscal year.
