Under the five-year, €53m contract, which takes effect on 23 October 2012, SITA will provide a comprehensive collection service including the systematic removal and replacement of household waste bins in Villeurbanne and five districts of Lyon.
The company will also collect 580 voluntary glass recycling bins.
SITA Région Centre Est CEO Olivier Schwartz said, "We are proud to share our expertise and our innovation capacity in waste collection with Greater Lyon and to contribute concretely to the long-term optimization of this service to benefit the residents of Greater Lyon as well as the environment."
SITA said each waste collection vehicle is fitted with an IT system to guarantee, among other benefits, that the vehicle’s location can be tracked from the time it leaves the depot to the time it returns.
