BCR Environmental developed the plant in partnership with Haines City.
The plant recycles organic waste to produce a natural, high-quality product for agriculture use.
The system was retrofitted into the existing treatment plant and allows the city to recycle wastewater residuals while reducing operational costs, energy consumption and the overall carbon footprint of the facility.
Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services commissioner Adam Putnam said, "This partnership will result in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and meet energy efficient goals while serving the needs of a growing community like Haines City. I applaud the opening of this new wastewater treatment facility and hope many more like it open in our state."
Haines City mayor Joanna Wilkinson said, "With BCR’s Neutralizer system, we will reduce energy consumption and waste hauling costs and we will lessen our impact on the environment."
The upgrades at the Neutralizer solution will allow Haines City to save $100,000 annually in operating costs and avoid $2.7m in capital expenditures.
