The cost of the water line upgrades is about $2.3m and will replace pipe dating as far back as 1915.

As part of the upgrade project, a new 12-inch and eight-inch ductile iron pipe will be installed along Bridge Street between Lowther Street in Lemoyne and Front Street in New Cumberland.

The company expects to complete the water main upgrades by the end of October 2012, weather permitting.

Pennsylvania American Water field operations manager Joseph Woodward said, "We’re
working in cooperation with PENNDOT officials to ensure that our project is completed prior to the
scheduled repaving of Bridge Street."

The company recently finished replacing nearly 7,000ft of outdated, undersized water main along Market Street in Camp Hill, at a cost of about $1.8m.

Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, is a publicly traded water utility in Pennsylvania.
